I have had similar arguments/discussions with believing Christians, and their reply is generally a helpless shrug and a statement along the lines of it being god's will and it will all work out in the end, and even if it doesn't, wouldn't I want to be on team god for just in case? I don't know if I would be called a Roman Provenance propionate. At least I have never been accused of it on the ECW forum. Anybody can hold a belief most sincerely. This does not make them automatically right or automatically wrong. And there have been people willing to die in support of their beliefs for as long as humans have existed. This also does not make them automatically right or automatically wrong. And sometimes you run into someone who sincerely holds a belief that is just plain counter-factual. This does not necessarily mean that they are bad people. For example, my dearly departed grandmother never did believe that N.A.S.A. sucecssfully sent manned missions to the moon, called it a bunch of Hollywood hoakum. Did this make her a bad person? No. I always disagreed with her on that, but loved her anyway. Even when I know somebody is factually wrong, and I disagree with them, if they're not harming anyone with their beliefs, I just as soon leave them be. But if their beliefs are harming others, well, I can't help but go into "mama bear" mode and stand up for the ones being hurt. For example, the L.D.S. Church is just plain wrong when it comes to the LGBTQA+ community, and I will argue anybody down that goes around actively harming people like that. (And before anybody leaps to their defense, I would like to point out the horrific rate of youth suicide and self-harm that you find in the Mormon corridor that results from their hateful, nicey-nasty policies that directly effect our LGBTQA+ folks.)
